School District hosts free parenting seminar:
On Tuesday, September 1, Boundary County School District #101
will be hosting a FREE seminar focused on a philosophy and
approach to parenting known as Love and Logic. |

August 27 Parker Ridge Fire update:
The Parker Ridge Fire, located in northwestern Boundary County
and involving the west side mountains in that area, along with
the northern Kootenai Valley and Porthill, Farm to Market, and
Copeland areas, continues to burn. |

BFHS
Soccer game canceled today:
Conrad Garner, Bonners Ferry High School Dean of
Students and Athletic Director, has announced
that the BFHS Boys' soccer game, scheduled for
today at Lakeland, has been canceled due to poor air quality
related to smoke from regional forest wildfires. |

Steer clear of active fire areas:
In fighting western wildfires this season,
officials have noted a serious, emerging problem
– that of interference from Unmanned Aircraft
Systems (UAS), often referred to as “drones,”
with firefighting responders. |

ignite controlled field burns; no new advances in fire:
Crews on the Parker Ridge Fire at the West Side of the northern
end of Boundary County continue to work both day and night in
their efforts to shore up the north and south borders of the
fire perimeter. |

In-river excavation has begun on
Kootenai Tribe sturgeon project:
In-river construction of the Bonners Ferry
Islands project has begun. This is a Kootenai
Tribe of Idaho project intended to help
endangered Kootenai River white sturgeon,
burbot, and other native fish. |

The on again/off again chip seal resurfacing
of Highway 95 is now ON again:
Crews will chip seal a six-mile section of U.S. Highway 95
through Athol, in the Garwood to Sagle corridor, starting
Thursday. |

Cutting firewood suspended on all Idaho
endowment lands that are currently under Stage 2
fire restrictions:
The Idaho Department of Lands (IDL) announced on
Monday, August 17 that it will not issue any new firewood
cutting permits on endowment lands in areas covered by stage 2
fire restrictions. |

Multi-state fire coordination group region
experiencing increased wildfires this season:
The Northern Rockies Coordination Center is reporting 30 large
fires, many of which are multi-fire complexes, with incident
management teams managing multiple fires. |

Idaho
Land Board approves $63 million to endowment trust lands
beneficiaries:
Idaho’s public school system and a number of
other State institutions will receive increased
payouts from Idaho endowment funds in fiscal
year 2017. |

New DMV online app allows instant check of
vehicle-title status:
Check the status of your motor-vehicle title
online and for free using a new Vehicle Title
Status Checker app, recently launched by the
Idaho Transportation Department’s Division of
Motor Vehicles. |

New Certified Nursing Assistant class begins
next month
at the hospital:
Boundary Community Hospital provides classes to
earn certification as a Certified Nursing

Firefighters are bracing and preparing for winds
expected to be picking up in the area of the
Parker Ridge Fire this Thursday. |

Fire officials have reduced their estimate of the overall size
of the Parker Ridge Fire to 6,139 acres as of Sunday morning,
August 16. |

Bonners Ferry Summer Youth Theatre to perform at
Boundary County Fair: Since early
July, a small group of young performers has been working very
hard to get ready to perform for the community. |

tripled in size since yesterday:
Fire officials are now reporting the Parker
Ridge Fire encompasses approximately 6,539
acres, tripling its size from yesterday's
reported 2,000 acres. There are 96 personnel
assigned to the fire. |

Parker Ridge Fire nearly 2,000 acres, crews working to protect
nearby private properties:
As of approximately 1:00 p.m. this afternoon
(Friday, August 14), fire officials were
estimating the Parker Ridge Fire at just under
2,000 acres (1,939 acres), still with 0%
containment. |

Parker Ridge Fire well over 1,000 acres: The
Parker Ridge Fire in northwestern Boundary
County has continued to spread in a
northeasterly direction, toward private property
and structures in that direction. |

Renewed efforts to bring new higher-speed
internet service for Boundary County:
Providing Boundary County with the fastest and most reliable
internet service possible has been an ongoing project for the
past seven years. |

today: Bonners Ferry High School

Fire officials report today the size of the
Parker Ridge Fire has expanded some to 591
acres. Spot fires spread to the northeast last
night, due to gusty winds up to nearly 40 miles per hour. |

Renovation of Paradise Valley Little White
Church
comes to a halt: someone stole building
materials: This has been a big
summer for the Little White Church in Paradise Valley. The
long-time area landmark, over 100 years old, has been enjoying
an intense renovation project, with all work, time, and
materials procured through donations from people and businesses
throughout Paradise Valley and Boundary County. |

County's Parker Ridge Fire continues to grow. Reported at 263
acres just three days ago, the fire has now more than doubled in
acreage to 591 acres. |

Twenty-five employers will participate in the
August 12 hiring event sponsored by the Idaho
Department of Labor at its Kootenai County

local boarding school, Boulder Creek Academy, are publishing a
photo journal that includes interviews of local residents in
Bonners Ferry. |

fire continues to be moderate with minimal fire

The fall steelhead harvest season opens Tuesday,
September 1 on the Snake, Salmon and Little
Salmon rivers. |

September 1:
September 1 marks the first day of the fall
Chinook salmon fishing season on parts of the
Snake, Clearwater, and Salmon rivers, as well as
the second-ever Coho season on the Clearwater
River. |

Fires limiting access to some areas,
but hunting seasons will go on:
Hunters heading into the field need to beware of fire situations
and possible area closures in their favorite hunting spots. |

Leftover
controlled hunt tags available today: Nearly 300
deer and 150 elk controlled hunt tags not issued during the
recent second drawing for deer, elk, antelope and black bear
will go on sale first come, first served, August 25 at 9:00 a.m. |

Fall Chinook
and Coho Salmon forecasts look good:
If the Fall Chinook, Coho and steelhead returns
hold up to the early season forecasts, anglers can anticipate
another exciting fall. |

Forest fires likely won't affect late-summer
hunts:
People heading out for late-summer hunts may see
some road and trail restrictions caused by
wildfires, but hunters are reminded Idaho Fish
and Game rarely alters hunts or offers rain
checks for controlled hunt tags because of
fires. |

Commission approves
Coho salmon season:
Anglers will enjoy the second consecutive Coho
salmon season in over 30 years this fall.
The Idaho Fish and Game Commission approved a
Coho salmon season for the mainstem Clearwater,
Middle Fork and North Fork Clearwater rivers. |

Cross Country team gearing up:
BFHS Cross Country season is just around the
corner. Head Coach Tyler Warner would like to invite interested
high school athletes to the first team practice on August 14 at
4:00 p.m. |

Idaho Fish and Game Commission adopted a fall
Chinook salmon fishing season to open Sept. 1 on
parts of the Snake, Clearwater and Salmon
rivers, and Idaho could see its second-ever
sport fishing season for Coho salmon on Sept. 1
pending commission approval in August. |

A hero at the fire:
I give you Victor Amoth and his boys Dallas,
Chris, and Vance. I didn't hear their stories
but his was a word picture. I could visualize the biggest flames
he'd ever seen and he's fought fire for years. He spoke of winds
so strong he could barely stand. |
