Pools and islands are finished in river project,
other tasks ongoing |

Work continues on the Bonners Ferry Islands
project of the Kootenai River Habitat
Restoration Program.
Project managers are reporting that the
excavation of the deep pools in the river and
the construction of the islands are now
complete. Crews are now working on installing
brush bank structures, planting riverbank and
island vegetation, creating floodplain roughness
with woody debris, installing "wildlife browse
deterrents," and doing the final grading on the
project.
Work will continue into November, then will be
put on hold through the winter. It is
anticipated the Bonners Ferry Islands project
will be completed in the fall of 2016. |
