Work continues on the Bonners Ferry Islands project of the Kootenai River Habitat Restoration Program. Project managers are reporting that the excavation of the deep pools in the river and the construction of the islands are now complete. Crews are now working on installing brush bank structures, planting riverbank and island vegetation, creating floodplain roughness with woody debris, installing "wildlife browse deterrents," and doing the final grading on the project. Work will continue into November, then will be put on hold through the winter. It is anticipated the Bonners Ferry Islands project will be completed in the fall of 2016. |
