ITD seeks comment on Bonners Ferry project |
October 23, 2017 |

The Idaho Transportation Department invites the
public to comment on the US-95, Alderson Lane to
Kootenai River/RR Bridge, Bonners Ferry project.
Comments are due by November 3.
Major changes include a consistent three-lane
section from Alderson Lane to Madison Street,
with wider shoulders, sidewalks on both sides of
Highway 95 separated from the road by a grass
buffer area, highway lighting, and the removal
of the traffic signal at Alderson Lane.
Changes north of Madison include a reduction to
two lanes on the South Hill, highway lighting,
and a new eight-foot sidewalk on the west side
of the street.

We absolutely need a light at Alderson Lane,
without it there will be many accidents trying
to turn onto Highway 95! |

Removal of the light on Alderson is insane.
Getting onto the highway was difficult from
every road because of that light not working all
summer. |
Barbara Rexford |
Big mistake to remove the light at Alderson. It
needs to be fixed so it works properly as it is
nearly impossible to make a left hand turn from
Alderson onto 95 or from 95 to Alderson
sometimes. Also, leave the south hill alone. It
works fine as is and there really doesn't need
an eight foot sidewalk from the apparent walking
traffic there now. |

Please keep in mind that with the traffic flow
heavy during school hours, and the buses, taking
away the one traffic light in town that helps
with flow is probably not the best idea. |

I live on Kootenai Trail Road in Paradise Valley
and work in town. I drive the Alderson hill
daily. I do not support taking out the light at
Alderson and Highway 95. It is nearly impossible
to turn left and drivers take dangerous turns
just to get on the road. The light was not
working most of the summer and it was extremely
inconvenient and unsafe for those living in
Paradise Valley. I support fixing the roads to
improve the pot holes and expanding for a wider
middle turn lane but I do not support taking out
the stop light at Alderson. My gosh, we only
have two stop lights in town and this is a
heavily used intersection. Not a good idea. |

Before we had the light at Alderson Lane, I was
on several ambulance calls to that intersection.
If we don’t learn from history, we’ll repeat it. |
