by Tom Turpin BFHS Head Baseball Coach The Badger baseball team traveled to Colville, Washington this past Saturday, April 9, and came away with a sweep of the Colville Indians and the Trail Hawks. GAME 1 - Bonners Ferry 12, Colville 8 Senior Vince Bennett pitched well and the Badger bats provided him enough runs to improve his overall record to 4-0. The Badgers scored an early run in the top of the first inning after Jesse Dunham reached base on a single and later scored on an RBI double from Caleb Gering. The Badgers added 3 more runs in the top of the 3rd inning when Bennett singled and Dunham scored Bennett on a RBI double. Nick Sabin singled and both Dunham and N. Sabin scored on Kaleb Stockton’s 2 run single to left. Colville got on the board in their bottom of the 3rd scoring a run off two hits to make the score 4-1. Bonners Ferry added 3 more in the top of the 4th when Seth Bateman led off the inning with a single and his brother Brady reached on an error from the centerfielder. Both scored on a two-run triple from Dunham. Gering then singled to score Dunham to make the score 7-1. The Indians responded with five runs in the bottom of the 4th inning on four hits to narrow the lead to 7-6. The Badgers got three more runs in the top of the 5th inning when Kevin Gray and Brady Bateman walked and later scored when Bennett hit a two-run triple to deep right. Bennett then scored on Dunham’s second triple of the game, making the score 10-6. The Badgers added single runs in the 6th inning when Nick Sabin scored on a wild pitch and Brady Bateman hit a one out triple and scored on Bennett’s sacrifice fly. Colville added two more runs to make the eventual score 12-8. Dunham led the team going 4 for 5 with four RBI and Brady Bateman, Bennett and Gering each got two hits in the game. Bateman GAME 2 - Trail 1, Bonners Ferry 10 (6 innings) With the score tied 1-1 going into the bottom of the 4th, the Badgers erupted for five runs and four more in the bottom of the 5th to secure the 10-1 win in six innings due to darkness. The Badgers scored 5 runs in the 4th inning off just two hits but received 4 walks in the inning. In the 5th inning, the Badgers scored their four runs on three hits highlighted by Kaleb Stockton’s RBI triple to left. Brady Bateman pitched a complete game, picking up the win giving up five hits to improve his record to 1-1. The Badgers travel to Newport for their final non-league tune-up this Thursday at 4:00 p.m. They start Intermountain league games this Saturday at home against Priest River. First game starts at 11:00 a.m. |
