Badgers do well at home tourney
|
September 24, 2013 |
The Badger volleyball team hosted the Bonners
Ferry Tournament over the weekend and finished
second in pool play, but two teams from Montana
came out on top overall.
Tournament format was two pools of four teams.
The Badgers finished second in their pool.
All eight teams seeded into single elimination
bracket playing one game to 25.
The Badgers beat Clark Fork in the elimination
round, but were put out by Libby.
The Badgers are still playing without senior
starter Desirae Minor due to an ankle injury.
They hope to have her back in in another week
for the Dig Pink match. The first two matches
were played without senior outside hitter
McKenzie MacDonald, but she was back to finish
the tourney.
"The younger players stepped up and we brought
Zoe Zielinski and Chloe Copley up to play for a
couple of matches," said coach Janis Tucker. "We
moved some players around to different spots and
I am pleased how they responded. We were one
game shy of the championship match and the girls
were very disappointed they didn't make it, but
the Badgers played some exceptional ball today.
We are always looking for reducing service
errors and improving our pass receive."
Badger stat leaders for the day were Emma Kelly
with 45 assists, Jasmine Hill with 22 kills,
Amanda Wilson with two blocks, Malorie Stippich
with 30 digs and
Makenzie Carle with 35 digs.
The Badgers play at home today against Kellogg,
and Dig Pink is October 1, with a silent action
as the team honors many breast cancer survivors
as well as other cancer survivors.
If anyone would like to donate to the silent
auction, please contact coach Janis Tucker at
