playoffs

April 24, 2013 |
The Badger baseball team travelled to Kellogg
Tuesday and came away with a 10- 6 win over the
Kellogg Wildcats in Intermountain League play.
The win improves their record to 10-8 and 4-3
going into the last weekend of the season.
Senior Will Weir pitched a complete game
striking out nine and walking two. He also had
two hits and three RBIs for the Badgers.
Senior Jesse Woods hit a RBI double in the first
inning. The Wildcats committed five errors in
the game.
Bonners Ferry will travel to Priest River this
Saturday to take on the Spartans for control of
second place in league.
The Spokesman Review reports the Badgers at the
top of the IML, with a league record of 6-1,
with Priest River, reported at 5-2 in league and
8-3 overall, in second.
District playoffs begin on Friday, May 10, at
Timberlake High School.
No matter the standings, the 2013 Badger boys of
summer have had a successful season, and next
year bodes to be better; six seniors are
leaving; Cade Umpenhour, Will Weir, Garrett
Skeen, Mike Clarkson, Austin Hawks and Jesse
Woods will be moving on.
A solid cadre of juniors; Connor Bennett, John
Brown, Mat Kramer, Ben Neumeyer, and Matt Sabin, may be stepping
up into leadership roles next year.
The team has plenty of bedrock, too; young
players who have honed their talents this year
and could go on to mentor and lead the young
players who will follow; sophomores Shay Garcia
and Matt Gray; freshmen Vince Bennett, Caleb
Blackmore, Tristan Howell and Dylan Unruh.
Team manager Camille Awbrey, a junior, promises
to be back next year as well.
For Badger baseball, the present is full of
promise. The future looks awesome. |
