Invernon wins, Garner 'Coach of the Year'

The Bonners Ferry Badgers took fifth place in
the Idaho State 3A wrestling tournament on
Saturday, with senior Blaine Invernon winning
his third state title, making he and Adam Hall
the only two Badgers in history to accomplish
the feat, and coach Conrad Garner was once again
chosen as Idaho high school wrestling's Coach of
the Year.
Of the 21 teams competing, Weiser won the state
3A team title with 106 points, Snake River was
second with 98.5 and Fruitland finished third
with 66. Sugar-Salem finished in fourth place
with 66, Bonners Ferry fifth with 64.5, Teton
sixth at 64, followed by American Falls, 63,
South Fremont, 60, Homedale 58, and Timberlake,
55.5.
In the consolation first round, Badger Chase
Erickson fell to Santos Gutierrez, Gooding, to a
pin at 0.25 in the 120 pound weight class; at
152, Josh Miller won an 11-8 decision over Caleb
Rundle, Filer, and Jonathan Gaspar, at 285,
pinned Andrew Saucedo, American Falls, at 3:40.
In the championship quarterfinals, Smith won a
4-2 decision over Zac Hallett, Kimberly, at 98
pounds; at 138, Invernon pinned Bailey King,
Fruitland, at 2:16; Parker Davis fell to Garrett
Wood, Sugar-Salem, by pin at 1:18; at 152, Skeen
fell to Nik Fagan, Fruitland, by a 6-0 decision;
at 195, Krichbaum won a 6-3 decision over
Chrition Ketchu, Fruitland; at 220, William
Gaspar fell by pin to Blaze Eckman, South
Fremont, at 2:49; and at 285 Morris McAllister
fell on a 3-2 decision to Hayden Herrick,
Weiser.
In the consolation second round, Parker Davis,
at 145, won a major decision over Bryce Hunt,
Bear Lake, 16-7; Badgers Anthony Skeen and Josh
Miller faced off at 152, with Skeen winning by
pin at 3:50; at 160, Quinn Cummings pinned Tyrel
Jensen, Snake River, at 2:20; at 220, William
Gaspar pinned Shad Allison, Payette, at 3:21 and
at 285, Badgers Jon Gaspar and Morris McAllister
took to the mat, with Gaspar winning by a 3-1
decision.
In the championship first round, Aaron Smith won
a technical fall over Teton's Brian Beard in the
98 pound weight class to finish in 12th place,
at 113, Jaeger Schnurle, who finished at number
6, fell to Spencer Rimer, Buhl, who got the pin
at 3:01.
At 138, champion Blaine Invernon pinned Junior
Gutierrez, Gooding, just 12 seconds in; and at
145, Parker Davis, who came home with a fourth
place finish, pinned Cameron Stone, Fruitland,
at 3:27.
In the 152 pound weight class, first place
finisher Nic Arnold, Sugar-Salem, pinned Badger
Josh Miller, who came in second, at 1:56 and
Anthony Skeen, 13th place, pinned Zane
Stephenson, Snake River, at 4:27. At 160, Quinn
Cummings, who finished in fifth, pinned Jason
Nelson, Teton, at 158; at 195 Carman Krichbaum,
eighth place finisher, pinned Francisco Viveros,
Kimberly, at 108.
At 220, Badger William Gaspar, 16th, pinned
Jorge Peratta, Filer, at 1:11, and Jon Gaspar,
seventh, fell in the 285 pound weight class to
Jake Hoggan, Teton, who got the pin at 3:48. |
