Three in contention for state championships

After the first day of competition, three
Badgers; Aaron Smith, Blaine Invernon and Carmen
Krichbaum, are still in the running for state
wrestling titles in the 3A State Championship,
which concludes tomorrow in Pocatello. Here are
the Badger results for day one:
At 98 pounds, Badger Aaron Smith defeated Briar
Beard, Teton. 16-0. Att 113, Spencer Rimer,
Buhl, pinned Jaeger Schnuerle at 3:01. Also
falling by pin was Badger Chase Erickson, 120
pounds, to Kaden Bench, Snake River, at 3:06.
At 138, Blaine Invernon kept his hope of
becoming a three-time state title holder,
pinning Junior Gutierrez at 12 seconds. Parker
Davis, fighting at 145, pinned Cameron Stone,
Fruitland, at 3:27.
At 152, Josh Miller fell to Sugar-Salem's Nic
Arnold, who got a pin at 1:56; Anthony Skeen
pinned Zane Stephenson, Snake River, at 4:27 and
Quinn Cummings pinned Jason Nelson, Teton, at
1:58.
At 195, Carman Krichbaum pinned Francisco
Viveros, Kimberly at 1:08; at 220, William
Gaspar moved ahead with a pin over Jorge Peratta,
Filer, at 1:11; and at 285, Morris McAllister
won a 1-0 decision over Bradyn Swanson, America
Falls, and Jonathan Gaspar fell by pin to Jake
Hoggan, Teton, at 3:48.
In the first consolation round, Jaeger Schneurle,
making his first appearance at state, fell by
pin to Jay Beard, Teton, at 1:32. Sophomore Chae
Erickson also fell by pin to Gooding's Santos
Gutierrez at 0:25.
Senior Josh Miller came back to win by an 11-8
decision over Caleb Rundle, Filer, as did junior
Jon Gaspar, who won by pin over Andrew Saucedo,
American Falls at 3:40.
In the championship quarterfinals, senior Aaron
Smith moved ahead, earning a 4-2 decision over
Zac Hallett, Kimberly; Blaine Invernon took out
Bailey King, Fruitland, with a pin at 2:16.
Anthony Skeen fell to Nik Fagan, Fruitland, on a
6-0 decision; Quinn Cummings also fell in a 5-2
decision to Jovan Cornejo, Homedale.
Carmen Kirchbaum is still on the path to a state
title, defeating Christion Ketchu, Fruitland, in
a 6-3 decision, but Morris McAllister fell in a
3-2 decision to Hayden Herrick, Weiser. |
