Badger girls have best match yet |
September 26, 2012 |
The Badger varsity volleyball team chalked up
another loss Tuesday evening as they hosted old
league rivals the St. Maries Lumberjacks, but
their level of intensity was cranked to high for
what coach Janis Tucker called by far their best
match of the season. That could bode well as the Badgers, who are 1-3 on the season in league, go into their final league match ups in the days ahead. While the Badgers won one of four sets, every match was close and play went right down to the wire; 21-25, 25-16, 23-25, 20-25, with the Badgers serving and blocking strong throughout. Mckenzie MacDonald contributed 10 kills and nine digs, Jasmine Hill came up with 10 kills, Camille Awbrey had nine kills and five blocks, Desirae Minor came in with 22 digs and two ace serves and Savannah Woods had 32 assists and four blocks. In the team's previous two games, Tucker lamented that the girls seemed to be playing too tentatively, and it appears that her work to get the girls their aggressive spirt back was working Tuesday. A week earlier, the Badgers went south to face the Sandpoint Bulldogs' JV team, and came away disappointed, falling in three sets, 14-25, 14-25, 18-25. In that match, Woods posted 15 assists and six digs, Hill had eight kills and MacDonald had three ace serves, four kills and six digs. Thursday's league match at Kellogg was only a little better, with the Badgers going 1-3; 17-25, 25-17, 16-25, 16-25. Allyson Merrifield, who earlier in the season injured her hand during warmups, came through with three ace serves, seven digs and nine kills, Woods had 12 assists and 17 digs and Kendra Merrit had two blocks. This Thursday, the Badgers travel to Priest River to take on the Spartans in league action at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, October 2, then they play their final league game of the season at home at 6:30 p.m. against Timberlake. The Badgers' final match of the regular season is at home against the Clark Fork Wampus Cats at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, October 9. |
