The Bonners Ferry High School boys soccer team
won their opening Intermountain League game
Friday, defeating Orofino on the road 7–1.
The Badgers dominated from the start,
controlling possession early and creating
numerous scoring chances from the get-go.
Freshman Tucker Dirks put the Badgers on the
board in the seventh minute and then again in
the 19th minute, with assists contributed by
freshman Jake Tremble and junior Jesus Mendez,
respectively.
Senior midfielder Keaton Tremble added an
unassisted goal in the 21st minute, while Mendez
put the Badgers up 4–0 in the 34th minute off
another assist from Jake Tremble, who tallied
his first goal in the 35th minute.
Junior defender Cameron Woods made a nice run up
the middle, and his goal just before halftime
put the Badgers up 6–0.
Easing off the throttle in the second half, the
Badgers worked on their passing attack and
spacing, with younger, inexperienced players
receiving many minutes on the field.
In the 67th minute a penalty kick was awarded to
the Badgers, and junior defender Noah Price
converted for his first career goal.
Orofino found the back of the net in the 68th
minute, finally sliding a shot past Badger
backup-keeper Kody Rice, who played
exceptionally well in his first varsity soccer
game.
The Badger Boys’ first home game is at 4 p.m.
Thursday against St. Maries, and then again
Friday, when Stillwater Christian visits at 5
p.m. |
