Badger softball waiting on sunshine |
April 2, 2012 |
By Coach Lauren Bartoe As we all anxiously await the arrival of spring and the sunshine it might someday bring, the High School Varsity Girls Softball Team has been working hard in preparation for their season. Since February 24, the girls have put time in through various activities including: weight lifting, throwing, hitting in the indoor cage, running, learning signs and plays, diving into freezing cold puddles, and even a little bit of Zumba dancing and bowling. After the first four games of the season were canceled due to weather, the girls are anticipating a game or two this week. If the weather allows they will start off facing league opponent Priest River in an away game on Thursday. A scheduled Saturday game would take them three hours south to play another conference game verses St. Maries. If this week proves to be too wet for softball, the following week is chalk full of games: Monday, April 9, a double header at Libby, Wednesday, April 11, a double header at Sandpoint and Friday, April 13, a double header and the first home games of the season verses Timberlake at 3 p.m. With six, let me repeat, six seniors, this looks to be a productive year for the Badgers. Senior Pitcher Jordan Porter will be joined by fellow seniors Caitlin Alexander, Mattea Bertling, Natasha Gray, Natasha Litterell and Kendra Neumeyer. Also making appearances on the mound this year will be sophomore Makenzie Carle and freshman Abbigail Skeen. Returners from last year include Aaramie Hoisington, Lindsay Taggart, Tessa Payne and Brianna Reasoner. New to the mix this year are Jasmine Hill, Mariah Money, Zoe Zielinksi and the manager, hailing from Belgium, senior exchange student Elise Couplet. Once the sun finally decides to appear in North Idaho, look forward to some shining performances from this lineup of star high school athletes. With only four homes games scheduled this season, they would greatly appreciate your support. |
