lead the way in the opening leg of the
Bonners Ferry Invitational August 27. |
The Bonners Ferry High School Cross Country
teams kicked off their season with a home
invitational Saturday, August 27, and while it
appears that the girls, who don't yet have the
numbers to comprise a full team, will be
struggling against a very strong Timberlake
program, the Badger boys look like they could
well go to state to represent the Intermountain
League.
With at least 10 teams competing, the Badger
Boys won the varsity competition with 34 points,
followed by Sandpoint, 36, and Timberlake, 51.
Micah Krmpotich led the way for the Badgers in
the boys varisty race on a great running day,
finishing the tough course at 17:29, followed by
Sandpoint's Sam Levora, 18:00 and Badger Jacob
Callister, 18:11. Badger Bradley Thompson came
finished in 10th place at 20:09; Luke Reoch,
20:34, and Jacob Perkins, 20:34, came in neck
and neck to finish 13th and 14th, respectively,
Alec Perkins came in 23rd at 22:27, and Jake
Stimmel finished in 25th place for the Badgers
at 23:17.

Sandpoint won in the JV Boys race, which was won
by Timberlake's Richard Mervin, who finished at
23:12; Badger Zack Sabin came in with a 10th
place finish at 28:05 and Tucker Cavender
finished in 12th place with a time of 29:39.
In the girl's race, it was Timberlake all the
way, with four Tigers crossing the finish line
before Steffie Pavey, Priest River, broke the
string. Timberlake won the meet hands down with
18 points, followed by Sandpoint, 49, and Priest
River, 62.
Tiger Ashly George was first across the finish
line with a time of 21:35, followed by Dom
Vanderwilt, 22:36, Rachel Ward, 23:36 and
Natalie Herring, 23:38.
Katie Hiatt was the first Badger to cross the
finish line, finished in 15th place with a time
of 26:16. Nonnie Stofiel led a string of Badgers
to the finish to come in at 22nd place with a
time of 29:21, following her were Jordan Merz,
29:41, and Aimee Sayers, 30:01.

The Badgers traveled to Priest River September
1, and, with four teams competing, again took a
first place finish with 21 points, followed by
Timberlake, 37, Kellogg and Priest River.
Krmpotich crossed the finish line first for
back-to-back wins, finishing the course in
17:20, with Callister right behind at 17:52.
Thompson came in at fifth place with a time of
19:01.
The Badger girls came in third place, posting no
score, and it was Timberlake taking all five of
the top spots in that race.
The Badger harriers travel to the Kellogg
Invitational at 4 p.m. Thursday, September 8;
just two days later they'll compete in the
biggest race of the year at the Silverwood
Invite, which begins at 8:30 a.m. and brings in
runners from three states. |
