The Bonners Ferry Badger baseball team had one
of their most exciting season finishes in years,
knocking off Buhl and Kimberly before falling to
Payette in the 3A State Championships held in
Ontario, Oregon.
South Fremont fell to Payette in game 1, 11-0,
while the Badgers, capitalizing on errors,
downed Buhl, state champions last year, 12-6, in
game 2.
The Badgers fell to Payette, 9-8 in game seven,
falling into the consolation bracket, where they
knocked off Kimberly, 15-5, to take third place
in the championships.
Frutiland, who've held the title three of the
last four years, earned this year's state
championship, going undefeated in tournament
play and ending their season with a record of
26-1. Payette, shut out in the title game 16-0
by the Grizzlies, finished second at state for
the second year in a row.
