Bonners Ferry –
Thursday, April 28, was Senior Night for three
Bonners Ferry Badgers Softball players.
Becca Farrens, Sam
Robertson and Chelsea Taggart were honored in a
presentation after the third inning during the
game against Troy.
The game began with clear
skies and very cold temperatures as Junior
Jordan Porter took the reigns at the mound.
The Badgers jumped out to a 2-0 lead in
the first inning, only to let in three runs
during the third.
The bats were alive though as the ladies
worked for three more runs, producing a score of
5-3 at the end of the third.
Bonners continued to score in every
inning after that, but Troy wasn't ready to give
up.
Battling it out, Troy tallied 11 runs by the end
of the 7th, but it wasn't enough to
overcome the Badgers with 12 runs.
Porter lead the offensive
attack scoring four runs from three hits and a
walk.
Senior Chelsea Taggart went 3 for 4 and
Tessa Payne also went 3 for 4.
Senior
Becca Farrens went 2 for 4 and senior Sam
Robertson added 2 runs in the victory.
Saturday the Lady Badgers
traveled to Timberlake for a double-header
against their league rival.
The first game ended 2-13 in favor of the
Tigers.
Porter went 2 for 3 in the loss and C.
Taggart earned 8 strikeouts on the mound.
The second game echoed the first with a
final score of 13-0.
Amanda Riley and Lindsay Taggart had the
only hits of the game with the pitching win
going to Timberlake's Nicole Cameron.
Assistant Coach Lisa Carle
observes, “This season has been a season of
growth for our Badgers Softball girls.
These girls have come out and given great
effort which reflects in their record this
season compared to years past.
Our seniors have been great leaders and
motivators for their teammates.
It has been my pleasure to work with all
of them and I think we will see great things
moving into the next few years.” The Badgers
current record is 7-8 with three games left in
the regular season.
Districts will take place May 13th
and 14th at Timberlake High School.
