Badger wrestlers finish second at state

Badger coach Conrad Garner took 16 wrestlers to the state A3 competition in Nampa, and as always, the Badgers fought well, coming away with eight medals and second place overall behind the Snake River Panthers.

 

Ben Watt, fighting at 140, defeated Michael McDonald, Buhl, with a 3-2 decision to bring home the championship in his weight class, and Trevor Hampton won a 9-4 decision to beat Chris Pooley, Priest River, to take the state championship at 145.

 

Blaine Invernon, fighting at 119, fell in the championship round to Justin Ensley, Homedale, to a pin at 5:23 to bring home silver.

 

Josh Tucker won a 5-3 decision over Kaden Bench, Snake River, to earn a bronze in the 103 division, and Dustin Koehler, at 130, beat Cody Thompson, Buhl, on an 8-2 decision to bring home a second bronze. Brandon Schmitz, fighting at 152, fell to Jesse Vogler, also of Snake River, to bring home a medal for fourth place. Reid Boorman, fighting at 130, fell by a single point, 5-4, to Brody Fuller, Parma, to earn a medal for fifth place.

In overall scoring, Snake River dominated, finishing with 165 points. The Badgers finished the tourney with 151.5. Sugar-Salem finished third with 142.5. Priest River tied with Payette for eighth place with 98 points, Timberlake came in at 16th with 49.5 points and St. Maries finished at 20th place with 24 points.
