The National Weather Service has issued a winter
storm warning in effect from 4 a.m. Thursday
through 10 a.m. Saturday for heavy snow over
North Idaho. Valley snowfall of 14 to 20 inches
is predicted north of Athol and up to four feet
could fall at higher elevations.
Driving will be treacherous and those who do not
have to drive should stay off the roads. In
addition to slick conditions, visibility will be
extremely limited.
Beware of downed trees and power lines in
roadways. Area residents should prepare for
potential power outages.
In Lincoln County, Montana, the winter storm
warning is in effect now through 5 p.m. MST
Saturday, with 18 to 22 inches of snow expected
with localized snowfalls of 30-inches possible,
combined with wind chills as low as
15-below-zero. At those temperatures, frostbite
can set in on exposed skin within minutes.
Travel will be difficult or impossible on
Highway 2 from Libby to Kalispell, on Highway 37
from Eureka to Libby, on Highway 56, Bull Lake
Road, and on Highway 93, from Eureka to
Whitefish.
A winter storm warning for snow means severe
winter weather conditions are expected. If you
must travel, keep an extra flashlight, food and
water in your vehicle in case of an emergency.
The latest road conditions for the state you are
calling from can be obtained by calling 511. |
