On Friday and Saturday, October 6 and 7, members
of the Bonners Ferry FFA Chapter took a bus down
to the University of Idaho in Moscow for Ag
Days. The adventures and activities started the
minute the bus parked on campus.
Two tours were being offered: one to a dairy
cattle farm and another to a sheep barn. After
the tours of the animals, everyone went and had
a look around the Ag Science building. The tour
guide let the members go into one of the biology
labs where wheat was being grown and their genes
were being spliced to make new breeds of wheat
that would withstand harsher weather conditions.
The professor also gave everyone a run through
of how his lab worked and let the members know
about the upcoming internship opportunities at
his lab.
After the tour of the Ag Science building,
everyone was split up into their workshops. Some
went to forestry, livestock judging oral
reasons, dairy cattle evaluation, meats
evaluation, and many others as well.
After a long day of multiple workshops, everyone
went to the Rec Center and hung out for a bit
until the Serpentine and Bonfire began. The
members each got glow sticks to wear and
followed the college students in their annual
Campus Serpentine for Homecoming.
The bonfire was lit up behind the Kibbie Dome
and the chapter members enjoyed hot chocolate,
cookies and music from the college band. When
the bonfire was over all the FFA members headed
back to the Rec Center and got ready to rest up
for another day of fun.
The second day of Ag Days started bright and
early in the morning and all the members walked
over to the Commons for breakfast before their
second workshops began. The workshops only took
up a few hours in the morning so everyone had
time to go off and explore the campus before the
Vandal’s Homecoming football game started.
Everyone in the Bonners Ferry FFA Chapter
decided to walk down to the Vandal’s store and
get some clothes and team items. Many members
were pleased to know that a Starbucks was right
across from the store, so after everyone was
decked out in Vandal’s gear and had their
coffee, everyone meandered back to the Commons.
It was easy to say that everyone was most
excited for the second day of Ag. Days because
the Vandal’s Homecoming football game was then
and the chapter got pretty good seats. Everyone
wore all of their new Vandal’s gear and cheered
on the players, but unfortunately, they did not
win.
It was a terrific trip and everyone had tons of
fun with their tours, workshops, and activities,
but by the end all the members were tired and
ready to go home. The bus was very quiet and
mostly everyone stayed asleep the entire ride
home. |
