Recital makes music visible |

The Becker Auditorium at Bonners Ferry High
School was witness to a rarity last weekend as
music was made visible through dance, as the
students and guests of The Dance Studio
presented their 2016-17 Spring Dance Recital
June 16 and 17.
From Terrific Tots to Jazz, Ballet and Uptown
Funk, the stage was filled with grace, poise and
beauty as the tradition of dance and the legacy
of teacher and choreographer Barb Russell
continued with another amazing group of dancers.
Taking the stage in this year's recital were the
precious Terrific Tots, Hallie Little, Aayla
Maclin, Kenzie Arthur, Addison Sweeney and
Gisela Wohlsein. Lilly Martinez and Sofie
Dinning were unable to join their classmates.
Performing the Kinderdance were Willow Graham,
Bailey Langford, Madison Moon, Ember Gardin,
Neriah LoPorto, Natalie Havens-Boone, Josy
Villareal and Adelynn Merrifield, with
Allesandra Lysiak missing the performance.

In Ballet 1, dancers were Kyla Fulton, Simone
Holly, Piper Mertzweiller, Kayden Jones,
Kaydence Alexander, Isabell Solum and Ellie
Church, with Daisy Williams missing the recital.
Ballet 2 students were Wren Tye, Bryn Griffiths,
Kaylee Stolley, Abegail Jones, Lavinder Allred,
Sadie Newshouse, Lovisa Wohlsein and Emilie
Bourassa; Ballet 3 dancers were Aspen Hill,
Paige Sartell, Aulana Russell, Logan Brinkman,
Madilyn Gibbins, Adlee Mae Robles, Frankie
Johnson, Sondra Fairchild and Guiliana Abraham.
Ballet 4 students performing Fairy Nightsong
were Bianca Dally, Nora Young, Markynn Pluid,
Malia Steffen, Meggie Kahanek, Reagan Fairchild,
Mia Blackmore and Melanie Campbell. Performing
Ballet 5 Class Progressions were Allie Hough,
Avery Pluid, Mickaelin Little, Hannah Sims,
Isabella Sims, Victoria Smith, Lily Blackmore
and Ilona Rosengrant.
Ballet 5 performed "Time" with choreography by
Ilona Rosengrant, "And They Have Escaped the
Weight of Darkness - You Are the Earth"
choreographed by Shaylee Ellson, danced by Kim
Cravens, Shaleyna Higgins and Barbara Russell.
"Dangerous," a 2017 Distinguished Young Woman
solo, was choreographed and performed by Allie
Hough, "Unsteady" was choreographed by Shaylee
Ellson and danced by Kim Cravens, Barbara
Russell, Shaleyna Higgins and Allie Hough and
"Nicest Thing" was choreographed and performed
by Shaleyna Higgins.
Perfoming the classic "Greensleeves" were Allie
Hough, Hannah Sims, Shaleyna Higgins, Barbara
Russell and Ilona Rosengrant.

The Jazz A students performed "What Makes You
Beautiful." They were Libby Smith, Abby Gentry,
Isabell Solum, Kaydence Alexander Bryn
Griffiths, Kaylee Stolley, Cambri Gardin, Lovisa
Wohlsein, Rhia Magee, Gracie Pluid and Abigail
Jones. Jazz B dancers performing "Girl in the
Mirror" were Morgan Tye, Kaybre Banks, Chloe
Langan, Guiliana Abraham, Hailey Dickson, Aspen
Graham, Emilie Bourassa, Adlee Mar Robles,
Celynn Chaney, Desirae Merritt and Sophia Kai
Jones.
Jazz C, performing "Itsy Bitsy Spider," was Ava
Villelli, Mary Moon, Malia Steffen, Mariah
Cooper, Brooke Petesch, Meggie Kahanek, Majesa
Allred, Melanie Campbell and Elizabeth Bourassa.
Jazz D students performed a hand dance
choreographed by Lauren Nichols, the finale, Ego
and "Uptown Jazz." Dancers were Allie Hough, Kim
Cravens, Barbara Russell, Dawn Wagner, Victoria
Smith, Mickaelin Little, Lily Blackmore, Mia
Blackmore and Ilona Rosengrant.
This year's emcee was David Brinkman, lighting
technician was Bill Lewis, Jill Alexander was
sound engineer and Steve Alvarez was
videographer. Students also served as stage
crew, and, except where noted, Barbara Russell
served as choreographer.
