Local hams preparing for field day |
May 23, 2017 |
Amateur radio has played an important part of
emergency communications since the dawn of
radio. Amateurs always practice their skills.
One of those practices is the American Radio
Relay League (ARRL) Annual Field Day, when
“hams” as they are called, move out into the
community and operate for 24 hours remotely,
away from power connections and antennas.
They do what they can, with what they can create
to get by and get the job done.
Boundary County Emergency Management supports
this annual field day as a training opportunity,
and invite you to visit your local Amateurs at
their Field Day location to discover what they
are doing and how they do it.
This year's field day takes place June 24 and
25, and in Boundary County, hams, sponsored by
the Boundary Amateur Radio Club, will gather at
the Kootenai National Wildlife Refuge
headquarters from 11 a.m. Saturday through 11
a.m. Sunday to practice and perfect their
skills.
All are invited and you don't need to be a ham
to participate. |
