Expect Highway 95 delays as slide area still unstable

Photo courtesy Nicole Winkelseth Workers put jersey barriers in place today to help stem the flow of mud still oozing onto Highway 95 near Mile 498. The Idaho Transportation Department advised the Boundary County Sheriff's Office late this morning that they will reduce travel on Highway 95 near Mountain Meadows Road to one lane until the hillside which slid onto the highway last weekend can be deemed stable. Motorists traveling through the are have reported delays of as much as 45-minutes through the slide area today. Still fully saturated, the hillside in question is still at high risk of additional mudslide. ITD has placed additional, cement barriers to try to slow down any further slides before they reach the highway. ITD personnel will maintain 24 hour per day traffic control in that area. Highway 95 will remain open unless further slides occur, but expect delays in traffic flow due to only one lane being utilized, and please be cautious while using Highway 95 in that area, not only for potential debris on the highway, but for the safety of the ITD workers in the area.
