Another phone scam making the rounds |
February 28, 2017 |
The Boundary County Sheriff's Office has put out
word that yet another telephone scam appears to
be making its way to the phones of Boundary
County residents.
It is being reported that unknown individuals
have been randomly calling people and
representing themselves as being from the
Publisher's Clearinghouse and falsely stating to
the person called that are the recipient of a
large sum of money, or other prize, as they have
won a sweepstakes.
The caller then attempts to obtain personal
and/or financial account information to be used
in identity theft type crimes.
If you receive a call of this nature, beware.
Never voluntarily provide personal or financial
information over the phone in a situation such
as this without first attempting to validate
what you are being told you have won, or will
receive, with which ever establishment is being
represented. In this case the Publisher's
Clearinghouse.
If it sounds suspicious, or too good to be true,
it usually is. |
