As of 6 a.m. today, road conditions are abysmal
throughout Boundary County; road crews have been
working through the night but have been unable
to keep up with the snowfall. A Bonners Ferry police officer, who has spent much of his shift helping stranded motorists, reports that city streets are nearly impassable. A downed tree has several motorists blocked on Kootenai Trail Road. If you don't absolutely have to drive, please stay off the roads until conditions improve. If you do have to get out and about, give yourself plenty of extra time and use extreme caution. Northern Lights is reporting numerous power outages throughout the county, including the entire Copeland area to the Canadian Border, with more than 550 without power. Numerous spot outages extend on Highway 95 from Sandpoint to Three Mile, and on Highway 2 into Montana. Line crews are working as fast as safely possible to restore power, but it could take considerable time. |
