It is estimated that every 53 hours a law
enforcement officer is killed in the line of
duty in the United States.
The month of November has seen the tragic loss
of 20 officers’ nationwide; more than any other
month in 2016.
There have been a total of 132 officers killed
in the line of duty in the United States this
year.
To honor the ultimate sacrifice made by these
men and woman, and their families, every year
for a week during the month of May, law
enforcement officers from all over the United
States travel to Washington DC to remember those
who gave their lives to serve and protect.
The explorers from Bonners Ferry Border Patrol
Explorer Post #190 are currently raising funds
in order to be a part of National Law
Enforcement Memorial Week in Washington DC, May
2017.
Explorers will be at the American Legion Craft
Show at the fairgrounds on Friday and Saturday.
You may purchase from a variety of generously
donated hand crafted items or buy raffle tickets
to win some great Christmas gifts, including a
number of gift certificates from local
businesses. Explorers will have a booth
available on Friday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and
Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Additionally, contributions for travel can be
made through a GoFundMe account at
gofundme.com/explorerpost190. The Explorers
have set a goal of $15,000 to cover expenses for
nine members of Explorers Post #190.
