Learn all about bats at upcoming educational
program at the Kootenai National Wildlife Refuge |
July 15, 2016 |
Just what you always wanted to know—all about
bats.
A fun and educational event is planned at the
Kootenai National Wildlife Refuge, a special
program called Discover Bats. This is
your chance to learn all about bats from the
experts.
The program is this coming Friday, July 22, and
begins at 7:00 p.m. at the Education Barn at the
Refuge. As part of the evening, bat houses,
built at the Refuge, will be available for sale.
And when we say learn from the experts, we mean
it. Information about those fascinating bats
will be given in a presentation by Jenny
Barnett, a U.S. Fish and Wildlife Biologist who
is an expert on bats.
"In the 2012 bat survey conducted at wildlife
refuges throughout the Pacific Region, the
Kootenai National Wildlife Refuge observed the
greatest number of bat species, even though our
Refuge is one of the smallest in land area,"
read a press release from the Friends of the
Kootenai National Wildlife Refuge. "The most
numerous among the species seen were the hoary
bat, little brown bat, silver haired bat, yuma
myotis, and California myotis. One likely reason
for the diversity is the Kootenai National
Wildlife Refuge's variety of environments and
its geographical location."
The program will last about an hour.
