Fatal Highway 95 collision at McArthur Reservoir

Naples resident John Hannigan, age 72, died in a
fatal automobile accident on Highway 95 at
milepost 493 near McArthur Reservoir yesterday.
Also seriously injured in the accident was 29
year old Daniel Duke of Nine Mile Falls,
Washington.
According to the Idaho State Police, Mr. Duke
was driving northbound on Highway 95 when his
vehicle entered the southbound lane. On crossing
into the southbound lane, the 1998 Plymouth
Voyager he was driving hit Mr. Hannigan's
southbound 1974 Ford pickup. Mr. Hannigan, who
was not wearing a seat belt, was ejected from
his vehicle.
Both drivers were transported by air to Kootenai
Health in Coeur d'Alene, where Mr. Hannigan
succumbed to his injuries. Due to the severe
nature of his injuries, Mr. Duke, who was
wearing a seatbelt in the accident, was later
transported by air from Kootenai Health to
Harborview Medical Center, a Level I trauma care
center in Seattle. Today, Mr. Duke remains in
the hospital at Harborview, where his condition
is listed as serious.
The collision and damaged vehicles blocked both
lanes of travel on Highway 95 for four hours at
Milepost 493. The Idaho State Police is
continuing to investigate the accident.
