More than robots: Bonners Ferry High
School Robotics Team update |
by Rayan Naylor and Nicholas Magdaleno The Bonners Ferry High School award-winning Robotics Team 2130 Alpha+ is continuing its work this season, with an eye toward the upcoming team competitions later this spring. FIRST Team 2130 Alpha+ just completed its fourth week of Build Season. We wrapped up prototyping and are hard at work programming and building our robot for this year’s team competition game, called FIRST Stronghold. (Story continues below this photo) Our programmers are now working on the sensors and motor controllers, which help give the robot accuracy in aiming and shooting for the game. Others on the Build Team are working on the robot structure as well as designing the electrical layout. The Business Team submitted our essay for the Chairman’s Award and is currently planning our video and presentation. This award recognizes a team’s outstanding dedication to STEM education (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) outreach and community service. We have also completed our 2016 Business Plan. We continue to keep team supporters updated on our Facebook page, which you can see at: https://www.facebook.com/FirstTeam2130 and our new YouTube channel, which can be seen at: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCvbWPFg2PBMMDULVDD1TTAg. We remain focused on our end result, bagging and tagging our finished robot by February 23. After that time, we can no longer work on our robot. It gets wrapped in a big plastic bag, tagged, and closed to ensure we are not changing a thing. Once the robot is bagged, we are only allowed to bring it out for a brief community demonstration. We are currently planning an Open House for March, so stay tuned! Throughout our season so far, we have had to overcome some obstacles. This year’s game is not an easy challenge, so prototyping our robot took longer than usual. A major blizzard in the Midwest slowed down the shipping of many needed parts for building the robot. Despite these minor setbacks, our team stands strong to take on the challenge and work our hardest to build a great robot. |
