"Lucky Thursdays" finally caught up with him. In a good way. A long time driver for school children traveling each day to Boundary County Schools, Mr. Reoch has celebrated the end of the school week with the children on his bus by having a "Lucky Thursday." On Thursdays, the last day of the school week, he tapes a dollar bill to the bottom of one of the seats on his bus. All of the seats are numbered, and at the end of the route, the winning seat number for some lucky young scholar is announced. Last Thursday was the final "Lucky Thursday" before the schools' Christmas break, and for a special surprise, Mr. Reoch gave a brand new one dollar bill to every student on the bus. " Guess you could say he pays them off," said fellow school bus driver Bill Irwin. "In our line of work, we'll do what ever it takes!" On Mr. Reoch's bus, it appears "Lucky Thursday" goes both ways. The kids on the bus had gifts for their bus driver, also. As you can see in the accompanying photo, Mr. Reoch received gifts of cookies, candy, homemade goodies, a poinsettia, and other gifts not even pictured. "It feels good to see something positive," said fellow driver Mr. Irwin. "I drove a route a year or so ago, and asked Anika Thompkins who was her favorite driver. She looked at me and smiled, and said Doug. Doug hadn't driven that route for three years. Needless to say my feelings were hurt!" "This is a nice story of one of our Boundary County School District bus drivers," added School Superintendent Gary Pflueger. |
