Wolverine program coming up at the Refuge |

You probably need to know more about wolverines,
right?
A special educational program on wolverines is
planned for this Friday, October 9.
The seldom-seen, solitary, powerful wolverine is
the largest member of the weasel family. These
tenacious hunters require very large territories
and individuals are known to range hundreds of
miles in a few months. Idaho is one of very few
states in the lower 48 thought to have a small
population of wolverines.
Wolverines are about the size of a medium-size
dog. It is a muscular and stocky with short
legs, a broad head, small eyes and short,
rounded ears. Some people believe it resembles a
small bear.
The wolverine has a reputation as a tenacious
hunter whose strength is out of proportion to
its size. Several instances of wolverines
killing prey larger than themselves are
documented.
To learn more about wolverines, please join us
on Friday, October 9 at 7:00 p.m. in the
Education Barn at Kootenai National Wildlife
Refuge. Lacy Robinson, from Idaho Fish and Game,
will introduce us to this interesting Idaho
inhabitant.
