Bonners Ferry city councilman Mayo submits resignation
April 29, 2015
by Mike Weland

After six years on the Bonners Ferry City Council, and three years after retiring from the Boundary County Assessor’s Office, city councilman Tom Mayo has tendered his resignation, effective June 30, saying he’s finally ready to slow down and enjoy being retired.

“My wife will be retiring soon and we’re both looking forward to enjoying it together, do a little traveling,” he said. “I’m getting older, and I don’t know that I still have the energy to give it what it deserves.”

His wife of nearly 40 years, Shirley, is materials manager at Boundary Community Hospital.

“It has been my honor to serve the city and I feel privileged by my associations with city employees and staff,” he wrote Mayor Dave Anderson April 15. “My time there will always be cherished.”

First elected to city council in 2009, Mayo said it’s been an honor to serve and that he’s developed an affection for all with whom he worked and a deeper appreciation for the City of Bonners Ferry.

“I feel like we have exceptional employees and a great staff,” he said.

Mayor Anderson now has the option of nominating an appointee, subject to approval of the city council, to fill Mayo’s seat and run for election this fall, or leave the seat vacant until voters decide and the person elected takes office in January.

Either way, Tom said, he hopes to see someone young, eager and energetic step up to help guide the city.
