of Bonners Ferry
Mark Peterson, co-anchor of Good Morning
Northwest on KXLY out of Spokane will be
returning to Bonners Ferry to emcee this year’s
Distinguished Young Women Scholarship program on
Saturday, April 18, 2015. Mark formerly emceed
the program in 2000 when Bonners Ferry Junior
Miss presented "Wild Wild West."
Mark has been in broadcasting for more than
three decades, the majority of that time spent
in television. He graduated from high school in
Billings, Montana and attended college at
Montana State University in beautiful Bozeman.
He started in radio in 1981 and has since worked
in Billings, Bozeman, and Northern California
and has traveled extensively throughout the
U.S., both with work and for enjoyment.
Mark has lived in Spokane for twenty-one years.
Within his community, he has served on many
boards for various charities, spoken to groups
of 10 to 10,000 people, and is a director with
the Spokane Lilac Association (a "purple
coater").
Mark has three sons, Tillman, Matthew, and
Joseph. He enjoys golf, fishing, and traveling
when time allows.
The local Distinguished Young Women committee is
grateful to Mark for taking the time to host
this year’s program, and welcomes him back to
Bonners Ferry. Tickets for this year’s show are
currently on sale for $12.00 at Mountain Mike’s
Health Food Store. All seating is reserved, and
tickets sell out fast.
Founded in 1958, Distinguished Young Women,
formerly America’s Junior Miss Scholarship
Program, is the largest and oldest scholarship
program for high school girls. Nationally, the
program is sponsored by the City of Mobile,
Mobile County, Barbara Barrington Jones Family
Foundation, The State of Alabama, Alabama
Association of Resource Conservation and
Development Councils, Alabama Power Foundation,
Encore Rehabilitation, Wintzell's Oyster House,
Master Boat Builders, Regions Financial
Corporation, and Alabama Media Group.
The 58th National Finals will take place in
Mobile, Alabama on June 25-27, 2015.
The participant chosen as this year’s
Distinguished Young Woman of Bonners Ferry will
represent our community at the state competition
in Pocatello this coming September 17, 18, and
19. Should she win there, she will represent
Idaho in the national finals to be held in June
2016.
