Introducing three more participants in this year's
Distinguished Young Women

Here are the biographies and photographs of the final three participants in this year's Distinguished Young Women event.  All photographs were taken by and are courtesy of Picturesque Photography by Sara.


Alaina Rushing – Participant #7

Alaina Dawn Rushing is sponsored by Masonic Organizations, Lodge No. 43. She is the daughter of Ronnie and Bobbie Jo Rushing. She has one younger sister, Ashlynn. After high school, Alaina plans to attend either Whitworth University or the University of Idaho, and pursue a career as a Radiologist or a Registered Nurse. Alaina finds historical figures Jesus Christ and C.S. Lewis interesting, as well as modern personalities Judge Jeanine Pirro and Bethany Hamilton.

Alaina keeps busy by participating in National Honor Society, Cheerleading, Honor Choir, and Yearbook. In her free time, Alaina enjoys singing, photography, stargazing, baking and cooking, writing, and arts and crafts. For her talent, Alaina will be performing a vocal solo of the song “I’ll Be There” by the Jackson 5.

When asked what makes her most proud of her generation, Alaina states, “I am most proud of my generation for how we adapt to and utilize new technology”.



Aaliyah Zarate – Participant #8
Aaliyah Janay Zarate is sponsored by the Bonners Ferry Rod Benders. She is the daughter of Armando and Janie Zarate. She has two brothers, AJ and Andre. After graduation, Aaliyah plans to attend University of Texas and become a Radiologist. Aaliyah is intrigued by modern personalities Audrey Hepburn and Beyonce, and finds historical figures Belva Ann Lockwood and Albert Einstein interesting.

Extracurricular activities that Aaliyah enjoys include Volleyball, Student Council, St. Ann’s Youth Group, National Honor Society, Dance Team, Basketball, and Foreign Language Society. For her talent, Aaliyah will be performing a salsa dance.

When asked what makes her least proud of her generation, Aaliyah states, “Our ability to complain makes me least proud of our generation.”







Abby Davis – Participant #9
Abby Davis is sponsored by Boundary County Community Theatre. She is the daughter of Barry and Crista Davis. She has one brother, Parker. Abby would like to attend a college in either Alabama or Louisiana to study Agricultural Economics and Rural Sociology. Historical personalities that interest Abby are Annie Oakley and Ronald Reagan, while modern personalities she finds interesting are Malala Yousafzai and Temple Grandin.

A few of the activities that keep Abby busy include National Honor Society, acting as FFA Treasurer & Secretary, 4-H, Junior Angus Association, Basketball, Soccer, Hunting, Volleyball, and coaching youth basketball. For her talent, Abby will be performing a comical skit.

When asked what makes her least proud of her generation, Abby is concerned about the feeling of entitlement. She states, “My generation needs to realize that hard work will pay off."
