Introducing more of this year's participants in
Distinguished Young Women |

As this year's Distinguished Young Women event
approaches, we will be publishing photos and
brief biographies of three program participants
each week, using information provided by our
local Distinguished Young Women officials.
Here are this week's biographies.

Chandra Bennett – Participant #4
Chandra Hope Bennett is sponsored by the Bonners
Ferry Eagles Aeries, #3522. She is the daughter
of Brian and Tiffany Bennett. She has two
brothers, Nathaniel and Bradlee, and two
sisters, Alaina and Isabella. Chandra plans to
attend Washington State University in order to
later pursue a career as a pediatrician. Chandra
finds historical figures Rosa Parks and Walt
Disney interesting, while she also finds modern
film stars Betty White and Sandra Bullock
fascinating.
In her spare time, Chandra enjoys riding horses,
photography, cooking, and hiking. She
participates in softball, cheerleading, and
works on the high school yearbook. For her
talent, Chandra will be performing a pom
routine.
When asked what makes her least proud of her
generation, Chandra cites drug usage, bullying,
and the overuse of technology.
Samantha
Schneider – Participant #5
Samantha Jean Schneider, sponsored by Knights of
Pythias, is the daughter of Michael and Tammy
Schneider. She has two brothers, Henry and
Michael. Samantha’s plans on attending either
Carroll College or Academy of Art University to
study either veterinary medicine, medicine, or
art. In her spare time, Samantha participates in
softball and volleyball. She enjoys art,
singing, dancing, and photography.
Historical personalities that interest Samantha
are Edgar Allan Poe and Benjamin Franklin, while
modern figures that interest her are Jennifer
Lawrence and Chris Kyle. For her talent,
Samantha will be creating sand art.
When asked what makes Samantha most proud of her
generation she states, “I am most proud of how
independent we have become.”
Shaleyna Higgins – Participant #6
Shaleyna Dawn Elizabeth Higgins, the daughter of
Barry and Darlene Higgins, is sponsored by Coeur
d'Alene Scottish Rite Bodies. She has one
sister, Kianna. Shaleyna plans to attend the
University of Idaho and double major in dance
and health/PE.
When Shaleyna is not dancing, singing in the
BFHS Honor Choir, or serving as Student Council
Secretary, she also enjoys gymnastics, singing,
choreography, volleyball, and being outdoors.
Shaleyna’s favorite musical performer is Colbie
Calliat, and Thomas Jefferson and Martin Luther
King are two historical figures that interest
her. For her talent, Shaleyna will be performing
a self-choreographed dance to the song "River
Flows in You."
When asked what makes her least proud of her
generation, Shaleyna states, “I’m least proud of
our overuse of social media and technology.” |
