The Bonners Ferry Police Department is proud to
announce that Corporal Winford “Buddy” Winters
recently returned from two weeks of training in
Las Vegas, Nevada at the Drug Abuse Resistance
Education (D.A.R.E.) academy. Officers assigned
to teach the D.A.R.E. curriculum to area school
children must attend the two week academy in
order to teach. Corporal Winters joined police officers, deputy sheriffs, and state troopers from across the western United States in this training. There was extensive hands-on field work that was performed by each student to demonstrate that he or she could teach and each student had up to three hours of homework each evening. Based on his classroom performance, Corporal Winters finished in the top of his class and was named “Class Valedictorian." This fall, Corporal Winters will be assigned as the School Resource Officer (SRO) at the Bonners Ferry High School. He will also be responsible for classroom DARE instruction at Boundary County Middle School, Valley View Elementary, Naples Elementary and Mt. Hall Elementary schools. Corporal Winters is also serving as a department advisor for the new Explorer Scout program. The Bonners Ferry Police Department is striving to provide professional law enforcement protection to the citizens of our community. We are proud of Corporal Winters and his representation of our city and agency! |
