Run for the Fallen event set for Bonners Ferry
July 16, 2014
Run for the Fallen will be holding its final event in Bonners Ferry on the last day of the upcoming Kootenai River Days celebration.

Run for the Fallen began in 2008 when a group of runners ran across America, beginning at Fort Irwin, California to the Arlington National Cemetery. Their goal was to run one mile for every soldier, sailor, airman and marine killed in Operation Iraqi Freedom.

Since then, Run for the Fallen has expanded as more people and more areas have joined in to honor those fallen service members.

Run for the Fallen’s goal is to have all 50 states participating in an annual run or walk of remembrance of the fallen men and women with ties to that state. Over 180,000+ miles have been collectively run in remembrance of those fallen since 9/11.

Run for the Fallen Idaho will hold its final event on Sunday, July 27th, 8:00 am, on the closing day of Kootenai River Days. They plan to end where this event was started in 2011, at the Veteran's Memorial Park in front of the Boundary County Library.

The event will begin with a short opening ceremony, which will include a reading of the names of our fallen military.

The course will be 5k, heading out through town to Riverside Drive toward the Refuge, approximately 1.5 miles, before turning around and returning to the Park. (Note, however, that participants can turn around to return at any point they wish along the way). Walkers, runners, and bikers are invited to join one final time as we honor and remember Idaho's fallen heroes. Patriot Guard Riders will escort the participants to the course. For participants able to complete the course in under 2 hours, an outdoor worship service at the fairgrounds is scheduled for 10am.

Water stations will be available along the course, and snacks available at the end of the run.

The event is free. T-shirts are available for a $5 donation. Those wishing to participate should pre-register by July 20 to guarantee a T-shirt. Pre-registration can be submitted online at www.runforthefallenidaho.org

The event will begin at Veteran's Memorial Park in front of the Boundary County Library on Sunday, July 27, at 8:00 a.m.
