Landers to speak at anniversary celebration |
January 5, 2018 |
Friends of Scotchman Peaks will celebrate their
13th anniversary on Saturday, January 13, with a
gathering at the Panida Theater, Sandpoint,
featuring eminent outdoor journalist Rich
Landers, who will talk about his 40-plus year
career at the Spokane Spokesman Review.
Landers will give a talk, “40 ‘Rich’ Years in
the Great Outdoors,” about his career at the
Spokesman-Review. He retired after 40 years in
December.
“Rich has been one of the best supporters of the
Friends' proposal over the years,” said FSPW
executive director Phil Hough. “We look forward
to hearing great stories about his adventures
both locally and around the world.”
Sandpoint Magazine publisher Chris Bessler will
be on hand to facilitate the conversation with
Rich.
The Friends of Scotchman Peaks Wilderness, Inc.
(FSPW) was formed in January 2005 by residents
of north Idaho and northwest Montana who believe
the Scotchman Peaks roadless area deserves
permanent protection as wilderness. In the five
northern counties of the Idaho Panhandle, there
are no acres of designated wilderness.
Additionally, the Kootenai National Forest has
the smallest percentage of Wilderness, less than
four-percent, of any national forest in Montana.
You can learn more about the organization on
their
website.
Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and Landers'
presentation starts at 7:30 p.m.
There will be a silent auction and Landers’
guidebooks will be available for purchase. The
Panida will be selling beer and wine as well as
the usual refreshments.
Tickets are $5 and are available at Eichardt’s
Pub, Sandpoint, Bonners Books in Bonners Ferry,
online at
www.scotchmanpeaks.org/events and at the
Panida. Please note that only a limited number
of tickets to the VIP meet and greet pre-event
with Rich remain.
