Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Week, 2014

The Bonners Ferry Police Department announces
the week of May 12 as the nation-wide observance
of “Police Officers’ Memorial Week,” with a
ceremony taking place Thursday, May 15 in
Washington D.C.
The City of Bonners Ferry will fly all city
flags at half staff in memory of those officers
killed in the line of duty. Additionally, all
Bonners Ferry Police Officers will wear a black
shroud or mourning band over their shields to
remember those brothers and sisters who were
lost.
There are a total of 20,267 names of officers
killed in the line of duty, whose names are
engraved on the National Police Memorial in
Washington D.C. So far, 2014 has been a deadly
year for police officers with a total of 41
officers killed so far. 38 have been men and 3
were women. The Los Angeles Police Department
has lost a total of 5 officers so far this year.
Alaska State Troopers also had two officers
killed in a violent assault in the last month.
The City of New York leads the nation in police
deaths with 697. The state of Texas is tops by
state with 1,625 officers, deputies and troopers
killed in the line of duty. The state of Idaho
has lost a total of 60 law enforcement officers
who were killed in the line of duty.
Please join in remembering those brave men and
women who gave all to defend our freedoms. When
you see a uniformed officer on the street,
please tell them what they do matters to you.
