Owens is, in a word, amazing! |

By Gary Pfleuger When you look up the term “old school,” the definition reads, “anything that is from an earlier era and looked upon with high regard or respect.” This fits the description of our Classified Employee of the Month for February. Edwina Owens has been with the Boundary County School District 101 for 36 years. She spent 25 years at the High School, six years at Middle School and the last five at Valley View Elementary School. Now, since we are a school, let’s look at this as a story problem: 36 years with 140 days in the school year; serving over 200 students a day—equals over a million satisfied children! Do the math! She is, in a word, amazing! District Food Supervisor Tammy Schneider says, “Edwina is the last of her kind; a traditional old style cook! She constantly goes above and beyond. She takes personal time to decorate the lunchroom, she does whatever it takes! I don’t know what else to say, she is truly amazing!” What I see on a daily basis in the lunchroom is a woman who loves her job and truly cares about the kids. She knows all the students by name and always treats them with unconditional love; never wanting a child to go hungry. She effectively manages the kitchen facility and crew. Both breakfast and lunches are served daily, on time and without issue. Edwina is one who makes me fondly long for the “Good ol’ Days,” and VVES is fortunate to have the services of this fine person! Edwina was born in Creston, B.C., and raised in Bonners Ferry. She has been blessed with two sons, Dean and Darrin, a daughter, Michelle and three grandsons. |
