Editor's note: In the wake of the second
bomb hoax, I inadvertently reported that it had
been found at the middle school; that report was
in error.
Hopes that the rash of school bomb hoaxes in
Boundary County public schools had ended were
dashed this morning when yet another threat was
discovered, this one written in a stall in a
girl's restroom. Another threat was discovered
written on the wall of a restroom stall at
Naples Elementary shortly before 12:30 p.m.
Over the last three years, schools have been
disrupted more than 10 times by bomb threats
found in the high school and middle school, the
last coming October 12, 2013.
Today's threat at the high school, reported
shortly after 10 a.m., once again forced
students to be evacuated, this time to the LDS
Church, and forced law enforcement,
firefighters, EMTs and other emergency services
personnel to drop everything and respond.
As in all previous cases, no actual threat was
found and the high school was declared clear by
Bonners Ferry Police Chief David Kramer at about
11:37 a.m. allowing students to return to their
classes.
An hour later a threat was discovered at Naples
Elementary; the first time such threat has
involved a county elementary school. This threat
was also found written in a restroom stall.
The school was cleared and students allowed back
to class shortly before 1 p.m.
Since the threats started appearing in 2012, two
juveniles have been convicted and one student
expelled, a move that prompted that boy's
parents to file a tort claim against the school
district. |
