Sandpoint airman dies in IED attack

The Department of Defense announced today the
death of an airman who was supporting Operation
Enduring Freedom. Captain David I. Lyon, 28, Sandpoint, died December 27, 2013, from wounds
suffered when his vehicle was attacked with an
improvised explosive device in Kabul,
Afghanistan.
He was assigned to the 21st Logistics Readiness
Squadron, Peterson Air Force Base, Colorado.
"Our heartfelt condolences go out to the family
and friends of Captain Lyon. The loss of life
pains our team deeply. We are poised to assist
his family and friends in their time of need and
have support services in place to facilitate
those needs," said Colonel John Shaw, 21st Space
Wing commander.
Lyon was serving a year-long deployment to
Afghanistan working with Afghan National Army
Commandos. He was scheduled to return home in
February.
Lyon had been stationed at Peterson Air force
Base since 2010.
