Old new chief at BFPD, for a while

 The
City of Bonners Ferry has a new police chief,
and the mayor and city council didn't have to
look far to find a candidate with exquisite
credentials; clear to Naples.
The sad part is that former chief Dave Kramer,
who retired in 2008, is only filling in
temporarily to give the city time to conduct a
nation-wide search. Still, it's great to hear a familiar 61
on the scanner.
The city also promoted Foster Mayo, who is also
retired but continued pulling patrols as a
reserve, to assistant chief.
Kramer hadn't completely retired, either,
continuing to fill shifts when needed and
teaching police science at North Idaho College.
He also continues to serve as Boundary County's
emergency management director.
Kramer's law enforcement career began even before he
graduated from Bonners Ferry High School in 1976,
when he joined the Law Enforcement Explorer
program with the Boundary County Sheriff's
Office at the age of 16. At age 18, high school
diploma fresh in hand, he became a
reserve deputy and enrolled in the criminal
justice program at NIC, graduating in 1978.
Shortly after his graduation, he joined the
Bonners Ferry Police Department, working with
his long-time mentor, Chief Don Hamilton.
Ten years later, he took over the reins of the
department.
Kramer and Mayo will fill for two to four months
while the city looks to fill both top positions. |
