9:15 a.m. Friday, Dec. 6: MSBSD -- Bus routes have been
operating normally this morning. Activity buses have departed
Palmer and Houston for Kenai sports events. Activity
transportation for Fairbanks has been canceled due to freezing
rain conditions. From the school district: The decision about school for tomorrow (Friday) will be made as soon as possible early tomorrow morning. Calls to families and staff will be made soon after the decision is made. With weather and road condition information, it is our goal to have a decision as close to 5 a.m. as possible. 3:45 p.m.: Freezing rain advisory now in effect until midnight tonight from Talkeetna south. 3:39 p.m.: Valley Mover bus service to resume, except Route 102. Expect significant delays & reroutes due to road conditions. 3:34 p.m.: MASCOT is closed due to weather for remainder of the day. Mat-Su Borough offices, pools, landfill, ice rink, Animal Care, libraries closed at 3 p.m. today due to deteriorating icy roads. 3:18 p.m.: Mat-Su dispatchers have advised emergency responders that road conditions on the Glenn Highway are deteriorating and get worse the farther north you go. Motorists are asked to stay off the roadways if at all possible. Update from Valley Mover: there will not be a 6:30 p.m. bus. The last bus departing Anchorage will be at 4:30 p.m. There will be a 4:30 leaving the downtown transit center. There WILL NOT be a 6.30 departing the transit center. The Alaska Department of Transportation & Public Facilities cautions motorists to be extremely careful as roads are very icy throughout the Central area. The northbound lanes of the Glenn Highway are currently closed as of approximately 1:30 p.m. at Eagle River Hill due to an accident. Local law enforcement is detouring traffic to the Highland exit. Motorists are encouraged to check 511 for updated travel advisories by calling 511, by accessing the 511 website located at http://511.alaska.gov/alaska511/mappingcomponent/index or by accessing the Department’s Facebook page or Twitter feed. From Valley Mover: Bus service suspended due to icy road conditions. Monitoring conditions hourly to determine when service will resume. Palmer Alaska News reports Glenn Highway is closed at Brake Light Hill ... and to be careful if you are going to Anchor town. From the Mat-Su Borough: 1:48 pm....closed Knik River Road for now..vehicle in the roadway. Roads are deteriorating: Palmer-Wasilla Highway is now very slick. Trunk Road may have accident. Big Lake Road had roll over. |
