"When I was appointed Chief of Police with the Bonners Ferry Police Department it was, and still is, an honor," Benkula wrote. "The community welcomed me and I appreciate the support that my family and I have been given. The police department has had some challenges but we have a great group of officers dedicated to the citizens of Bonners Ferry." Benkula, a 28-year law enforcement veteran, was hired by the city in April, 2012. He has accepted a position with the Idaho Attorney General's Office and will move with his family to Treasure Valley. "Please know that the challenges that we have faced was in no way a factor in my decision," he wrote. "This was not easy for me. It has been challenging but rewarding and I am proud to have been a part of the great City of Bonners Ferry team. I appreciate the opportunity that has been given to me." |
