The
Pearl Theater is pleased and excited to present
renowned balladeer, old time banjo player and
song collector Sara Grey in concert at The Pearl
at 7 p.m. Sunday, October 13.
Playing a variety of traditional American
musical styles, Sara will explore songs in the
oral tradition of people who migrated to the
Western States in a special "Western Song
Presentation," a Power Point compilation
illustrated with wonderful old photographs that
bring to life the stories behind each song.
There will be cowboy songs, gold rush songs,
outlaw ballads, love songs, funny ditties and
more.
After more than 40 years of touring, Sara Grey
is as keen to share her music as ever. Drawing
forth the mood of the song, her clear voice
conveys sorrow, triumph, calm, fire,
playfulness, and pure joy.
For her scholarship in tracing the migrations
and transmutations of songs, and for collecting
many of them "from the field," Sara Grey is
considered a national treasure in American
traditional music.
Tickets are $12 General and $11 for Pearl
Theater Members and are available for purchase
at Bonners Books and Mountain Mike's in Bonners
Ferry as well as at the door. The show will
begin at 7 p.m., with café and doors open at 6
p.m.
Sara Grey grew up in New Hampshire but has lived
in North Carolina, Ohio, Montana, New York,
Pennsylvania, Arizona, Wales, Scotland and
England.
As a youngster in North Carolina, she first
heard a lot of mountain music and her love for
the old-time banjo music and songs developed
from this experience. Sara has lived in Scotland
and briefly in England for more than 30 years. |
