Meet school board candidate Kim Peterson |
May 20, 2013 |
My name is Kim Peterson and I am running for
School Board Trustee in Zone 5 of Boundary
County. As a constitutional and fiscal conservative, I believe we have to move towards a smaller, more fiscally efficient government. This starts at the local level. Every benefit has a cost which must be considered. As a school board member, I will work towards what is in the best long term interest of all students in our district, while keeping all stakeholders in mind. I have been a business owner for over 20 years. Under my leadership, the business has grown from two employees to 20, and became the largest woman owned distributorship of its kind. Two years ago, I sold my son 1/3 of the business and semi retired. Although my son handles all the daily management of the business, I am still active in the financial planning. The main reason I am running for school board is my concern for the future education of the children in our county. Idaho has signed on to a new nationalized standards testing called “Common Core." This Federal program will take away the control of our schools at the state and local level and cost the taxpayers of Idaho millions of additional tax dollars. Boundary County taxpayers cannot and should not have to pay what this program would cost. If elected, I will do everything in my power to represent Boundary County in fighting the implementation of Common Core. I will bring to the school board a strong background in leadership and finance. I have served on three non profit boards, and have been the executive director of one. I am a critical thinker and problem solver. I will make decisions based on facts, not what feels good. I will let the taxpayers know exactly where their dollars are being spent. I promise to read the curriculum that is being taught in our county. Our school district is filled with active community volunteers. This is our strongest resource. I will help organize fundraisers as needed before digging deeper into the taxpayers' pocket. I urge everyone to come out and vote in the May 21 election, especially if you are in Zone 5. |
