Teens nabbed for vandalizing signs

A report of malicious injury to property on
Smith Lake Road early Friday morning led to the
arrest of two teens, with two more fleeing
officers but, having been identified, also
facing potential charges.
The report was called in at 12:20 a.m.
According to Chief Deputy Rich Stephens,
deputies found that the four had torn down
several road signs, causing potential hazards
for motorists, and were using the wooden posts
for a campfire at the Smith Lake campgrounds.
"This has been a problem around the county this
year," Stephens said. "We don't have anything to
tie these kids to similar crimes in other areas,
but it's a start."
The two detained, ages 16 and 17, were later
released to their parents, and the cases sent to
the prosecutor to determine charges to be filed.
Once the two who fled have been contacted,
believed to be of similar age, those cases will
be submitted for prosecution as well. |
