American Legion Post #55 to be re-dedicated |
May 6, 2013 |
After members made the decision last year to
take over management of a bar previously leased,
and after members and volunteers worked for
months to completely renovate a facility that
had been going downhill for years, American
Legion Post #55 will be re-dedicated with
fanfare May 27 at 3 p.m., following the Memorial
Day Remembrance Services. Idaho Governor Butch Otter will fly to Bonners Ferry to attend the event, and U.S. Congressman Raul Labrador is trying to be here as well. All local elected officials, including District 1 Representatives, have been invited as well. Memorial Day will begin with a parade at 10 a.m. sharp through Main Street in downtown Bonners Ferry, with participants gathering and lining up at the fairgrounds at 9 a.m. It's unknown whether Governor Otter will arrive in time for the parade. Following the Memorial Day Parade, people will begin moving to Grandview Cemetery, where all the graves of U.S. military veterans will be marked with flags, for this year's Remembrance Service. During the Legion Post #55 re-dedication, the guest speaker will be Cal Russell of Bonners Ferry, though Post Commander Terry Spence said he's thinking the dignitaries who will be there, particularly the governor, may want to say a few words as well! If you haven't yet visited Club 55, now a non-smoking lounge that opened in February on Super Bowl Sunday, this is the perfect opportunity to see the remarkable transformation to the downtown Bonners Ferry landmark. |
