In hindsight, the month of November was a busy
one! Parent-teacher Conferences were successful,
with many teachers enjoying 100% participation;
overall we met with 95% of our parents and we
are still looking to make up the missed 5%! A
reality of any successful school program is that
no one can do it alone; we are clearly in this
together.
One thing that has improved this year is student
attendance.
The first quarter we had 130 students with
perfect attendance and 141 with faithful
attendance (less than two days absent). This is
so important in school success, especially in
light of the four day work week!
We simply cannot do our jobs unless the students
show up!
To strengthen this bond, I have been looking
into attendance policies that will ensure
faithful attendance and parent accountability.
This will have little or no effect on most of
our families, but will make a significant change
on others. Stay tuned!
P.S. The students who maintain perfect and
faithful attendance will enjoy special treats!
We celebrated Idaho Family Literacy Week in
November, coordinated by Debbie Pauls, our Idaho
Reads Vista volunteer. Students enjoyed such
activities as reading in a bear cave, having
guest readers in the classroom, and a pajama day
read-in with popcorn.
Many books were given out to many children — the
holidays are a great time to read!
This month the PTO made a decision that will
have a positive effect on our school program for
years to come.
A portable stage has been ordered to be used in
the gym for assemblies, awards and celebrations.
In the not too distant future, I see a much
needed bleacher replacement in the gym!
Donations for this project or other activities
can be made directly to the PTO.
Box Tops were reimbursed mid-month for a total
of $880! This “free money” will be used for
items and opportunities that directly benefit
and enhance our students’ school experience.
Thank you PTO and keep those Box Tops coming in!
Please encourage all family members with/without
children or in/out of town to support this
painless fund-raising program!
Student Council Elections were held and our
newly elected leaders include: President Grace
Villelli, V.P. Katie Clairmont, and Treasurer
Cameron Rae.
The Class Representative are: Avery Pluid,
Paisley Schulte, Rikki Cowin, Thomas Mooney-Rivkin,
Amanda Maggi and Ben Tompkins.
This group will focus on school pride and
community service activities. Congratulations to
these individuals and to their worthy opponents!
As we look ahead, I have already seen and heard
improvements in our school-wide reading and
writing goals.
Stop by and see the writing samples in the front
hall. These are posted to give examples of grade
level work and will be used to measure growth.
This is a much needed school improvement goal;
the written word is powerful.
My wife is rooting for the students to meet
their goal, as this will lead to a clean shaven
principal! March is the deadline, if the goals
are met — but that is up to the students!
