Firewood areas open in Bonner County |
July 31, 2012 |
New opportunities for firewood cutting have
opened up on the Sandpoint Ranger District. Between July 26 and August 20, 2012 the following roads will be open for firewood cutting: Road 1050 Grouse Mountain (Sagle), Road 630 B, B1, C, E (Cocolalla), Road 315 D Little Black Tail, Road 278 F off 278 (Clark Fork side) and Road 278 B, C, D off 278 (off of Bunco). Each year Forest Service employees working on the district evaluate different portions of the forest in an effort to identify areas where firewood collection would be especially beneficial to the landscape and where there is ample opportunity for members of the public to gather wood. These special areas are only open on a temporary basis and are typically closed again for several years until down and dead materials accumulate again. A Forest Service firewood gathering permit is required for members of the public and can be purchased from any Forest Service office in north Idaho. For more information please contact the Sandpoint Ranger District Office at (208) 263-5111 or visit the Idaho Panhandle National Forests website. |
