Gearing up for Independence Day |
February 19, 2012 |
It's still a few months away, but Paradise
Valley Fire Chief and sheriff's candidate Gary
Leonard has taken the lead and is already at
work to see that Boundary County residents and
visitors can enjoy a spectacular Fourth of July
this year.
He's already been busy talking to people and
stirring interest, and he's created a website,
http://www.july-fourth.us, to keep everyone
up-to-date on progress. While there's not a lot
of information thus far, that will soon change
as plans firm up.
"The program is starting to shape up," Gary
wrote. "Right now, we plan on opening the gates
at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 4. We are working
on having locals provide hot dogs, hamburgers,
potato salad, macaroni salad, kettle corn, and
of course, apple pie with ice cream. Of course,
Fire Engines will be on display, local
candidates running in the November Election will
be in attendance and maybe some surprise fun and
games. We have spoken to the local Scout Troop
for color guard and the Pledge of Allegiance.
Messages have been left with the High School
Band to perform."
Mountain West Bank has already signed on to help
sponsor the event, and more help is needed. One
of the key pages on the site is the "sign up to
help" page, where those interested in taking
part can sign up.
